SIMPLY CHAI - the fair alternative from Germany – sustainable – fair – ecological

Simply Chai is inspired by the original Indian Masala Tea. Being an instant Chai tea it is easy to enjoy one’s perfect Chai in the office or in a cafe without having to cook spices for hours before. Because that is the way tea is made in India. Each Chai Wallah (seller) has his own recipe, uses his own spices to season “his” Chai.

As not only to Indians the „cow is sacred“, our company Simply Chai also refrains from using dairy products or other animal products. And - has any Chai Wallah ever tried to add casein or mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids to his perfect Chai? We will follow this example and exclusively use natural, untreated, fair, and biological raw materials for Simply Chai.

The fairly treated organic cane sugar of the cooperative UFRA from Brazil constitutes the basis for Simply Chai.

In 1986, the sugar refinery Sao Francisco and 38 farms in Brazil joined together in a cooperative named ”UFRA“. The cooperative’s name is derived from the Portuguese abbreviation for the sugar refinery (Usina Sao Francisco). Today, sugarcane is organically cultivated on a total of 14,000 hectares!
The employees and their families are living in houses owned by the company. All employees and their relatives obtain free medical basic care and the children free education as well as scholarships. In this way we support the social promotion, education, and training of the project.

In addition, the cane sugar used by us not only is organic but also certified as “eco-social“.

About US

The idea to originate Simply Chai started with the usual hot morning drink in a coffee roasting house. Fortunately, meanwhile you can be sure about comparably good quality of a coffee in any coffee bar/roasting house in whatever city in Germany you may be. As well, coffee beans from direct trade or fair and/or ecological trade are elements of ”good taste”.

In contrast, good quality of Chai tea is unfortunately often lacking. In fact, you often do not even exactly know what is stirred in your cup. Fair and sustainable - that is what the Chai is not at all.

Thus it was “BIO-"logical" for us that we had to develop a fair alternative here. We then tested the very small product range in Germany and every time we came to the same result: it did not taste as good as it should do!

Chai is more than the sum of its spices. For this reason, we puzzled as long as we needed to find the perfectly balanced blend. In Simply Chai taste and effect melt to a reasonable drinking pleasure.

Therefore, people with a great deal of commitment loving and living Chai in its original form work at Simply Chai. It is our mission to maintain traditions long gone and at the same time [recognize] the signs of the time.

Simply Chai tea is made in a small spice manufacture in Germany of fair and organic raw materials. Attention, care, manual labour, honesty, and love for the beautiful and good are our daily inspiration.

Our Products

The basis for the production of Simply Chai tea is sugar cane, a grass subspecies which is sharp-edged which can grow up to five meters in height. What only few people know is:  there are about 300 different types of sugar cane. About 200 of these are cultivated for the extraction of sugar, 160 of which are located in Brazil.

As with wine where the characteristics of the grape are one decisive factor for the later flavour, the choice of the cane sugar is decisive for the Chai´s quality. Thus, it is no coincidence that we procure our fair organic cane sugar from the cooperative UFRA in Brazil. The fair organic premium cane sugar is characterized by a light caramelized flavour and optimally complements the spices.

Little Sugar Lesson

Social Projects

Some time ago, we started to accompany the project of Father Tom to build up a school in one of the poorest regions of India. The educational misery in many parts of India is an essential reason for the persistent migration from rural areas – young people hardly see any perspective in their home towns. Therefore, we are happy about the picture we received from Father Tom showing the progress of the school building.

The provisional building developed into a school in which classes can be educated with simple infrastructure. We also will pursue the project in future and support it by a donation of € 0.30 per each kg of sold Chai tea Tee in order to achieve improved educational opportunities.
